Open Position: RIWCP Board Member

The Rhode Island Women’s Choreography Project (RIWCP) is actively seeking members to grow our Board of Directors. The Board of Directors has up to 15 voting members. Terms are for 3 years. 

 

We are looking to fill 4-6 volunteer positions. RIWCP meets quarterly either in person or via zoom with meetings either early morning or in the evening on weekdays. Preference will be given to female-identifying and non-binary persons with an interest in dance, the arts, and/or equity. There are no membership dues. 

 

Principally, the Board manages organizational finances and sets long term priorities for programs, including the development of: a strategic plan, capacity building, and expansion outside of the New England region. Overall, the members of the Board contribute the educational, management, legal, and financial skills needed to ensure long term organizational stability and ensure year-to-year educational excellence for the RIWCP mission. Board members also hold a fiduciary responsibility for management of organizational capital and ensuring appropriate filings with federal, state, and local authorities consistent with the organization’s status as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The attendance policy allows for removal if two consecutive meetings are missed without notice.

Board Member Responsibilities and Expectations

The reasonable expectations held to Rhode Island Women’s Choreographer Project Board of Directors include but not limited to the following:

 

  • Participation in RIWCP Activities: regular attendance and active participation at RIWCP board and committee meetings; attendance at performances and special events

  • Fundraising: the Board of Directors have a clear responsibility to facilitate RIWCP’s growth financially. Assist the Director in fundraising and strategic planning to build the capacity of the organization.

  • Helping to increase Attendance at Programs and Events: our board and committee members are the strength to the success of this company. This involves personal participation and solicitation for the company and its events.

  • NetworkingRIWCP board members/ directors should actively seek out opportunities to connect with leaders in the area as well as spread our ideas to help advance our missions and objectives.

  • Recruitment for Committee Members with Leadership Potential: board members should actively recruit potential donors and leaders to help the company. Helping to identify and cultivate potential board members is vital to the long term success of the organization.
